"40 years is nothing compared with the 400 blood-soaked years black people have been through in this country"

ummm..... Try this... those whom today we call Gay have been persecuted, tortured and murdered for about 2000 years. So to those who like to compare "my oppression is worse than yours" like the smuck who wrote that crap, all I can say is WTF?! what an ignorant, bigoted, hypocrite.

(Direct Comment on Article) I'd love to say that this is completely out of line, but it's not. The gay movement seriously needs to reevaluate how it is catering to its communities of color given the level of alienation that its members face as double or triple minorities. The issue is not that blacks or other minorities are not "welcomed" theoretically into these organizations. It's more that the environment created in the gay movement simply does not actually welcome/invite communities of color into the movement culturally or visually.

It's the same reason why a variety of POC (people of color) gay organizations have sprung up such as Queer Women of Color and Friends (QWOC+) Boston (www.qwocboston.org) and why they hold their separate pride weeks. These organizations develop because there is a vacuum in the gay community for a space to discuss the conflicts of Obama's gay politics and his pioneering achievements as the first black President, a president hyperconscious of racial disparities to which many in the gay community can highly relate.
